This Wednesday, the Minister of Internal Administration opened an investigation into Tuesday’s police operation in the Lumiar area, in Lisbon, in which a man suffered injuries after being shot by a PSP agent.

“Margarida Blasco today ordered the opening of an investigation process, to take place within the scope of IGAI [Inspeção-Geral da Administração Interna]in relation to the events that occurred on the night of April 23, in the Linhas de Torres area, in Lumiar, as part of a police operation that involved elements of the PSP”, states a note from the Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI).

On Tuesday night, a man suffered injuries after being shot by a PSP agent in Lumiar, after firing shots at the police, the police told Lusa.

According to the Public Security Police, a vehicle disobeyed the PSP’s order to stop in the Alameda das Linhas de Torres area, with the two men in the car beginning to escape on foot.

During the escape, one of the suspects pointed a gun and fired at the police and one of the officers used a firearm and hit the suspect, who was arrested and taken to the hospital with a wound to his buttock.

The PSP indicates that the suspect who was shot is not in danger of dying and the other occupant of the car was arrested, in addition to the weapon being seized.

The case investigation is now being carried out by the Judiciary Police.
