In the municipality of Peixoto de Azevedo, the population is still in shock after the release of videos showing livestock farmer Ines Gemilaki, aged 48, and her son, doctor Bruno Gemilaki Dal Poz, aged 28, in calm behavior after a violent attack that resulted in the death of two elderly people.
Security cameras captured images of Ines pointing a firearm at the lens, while smiling, shortly after she and her son left the scene of the crime. The recording also shows Bruno handling a 12-gauge shotgun and shooting towards the camera.
The act took place last Sunday, after the suspects invaded a house in Peixoto de Azevedo, which is 692 kilometers from the capital, Cuiabá. A priest was injured in the incident.
According to authorities, eight people were in the residence at the time during the crime. The videos show Ines, wearing a blue blouse, carrying a pistol and Bruno, in white, with the shotgun. After the act, the two are seen fleeing the scene, carrying the weapons used in the crime.
Two days after the incident, Marcio Ferreira Gonçalves, Ines’ husband, and Eder Gonçalves Rodrigues, her brother, allegedly involved in the crime, were arrested in Alta Floresta. Ines and Bruno handed themselves over to the police on the same day and are currently in preventive custody.
The defendants’ defense has not yet commented. Police believe the individuals will face charges of double homicide and criminal association.
What investigations have shown so far is that the crime was motivated by a commercial disagreement regarding rental payments for the invaded property. The police are investigating the case. Authorities mention that the owner of the house, who luckily was not hit, would be the main target of the attack.
The case gained even greater notoriety after images showed a mother and son stopping to buy drinks at a convenience store during their escape, showing an apparent lack of remorse for the act committed.
The police continue with investigations to fully clarify the facts and motivations behind this crime that shook the local community.
