After death of dog on aircraft, animal daycare holds demonstration in Campo Grande

‘Joca’, the Golden Retriever dog, who ended up dying after being transported inappropriately by the airline Gol, generated commotion and indignation on social media across the country. In Campo Grande, the Golden Retriever group, together with partners is organizing a peaceful demonstration this Sunday (28) in support of the case, the idea is to honor the animal and show the population’s indignation.

“How many animals will need to suffer for real action to be taken?” says a statement from Hug Dog animal daycare on its social media. The establishment is inviting pet owners from all over Campo Grande to come and take their pet to the event.

The demonstration takes place in front of the airport at 8 am, and has caused a large movement of supporters on social media. Everyone is welcome, but there are rules:

– females in heat or recently out of heat should not participate.
– reactive or quarrelsome dogs will not be able to participate.
– dogs must be on a leash at all times.
– respect and empathy will be the basis of our movement.
– everyone’s punctuality is super important.
– wear a black shirt and black bandana.

Understand – A Golden Retriever dog died on Monday (22) during an air transport carried out by Gollog, the cargo service of the airline Gol. The case has been gaining prominence on social networks and in the media. The dog Joca was just 5 years old and was going with his guardian, engineer João Fantazzini, from Guarulhos, São Paulo, to Sinop, in Mato Grosso. But due to the company’s error, the animal was boarded on the wrong flight, bound for Fortaleza. The dog was then boarded on a new flight back to Guarulhos, and shortly after landing, his death was confirmed.

In a statement, Gol said that it “sympathizes with the suffering of Joca’s guardian and his family” and that “investigating the details of what happened is being carried out with total priority.” The company announced that the service of transporting dogs and cats in the hold of aircraft is suspended for the next 30 days, “to dedicate itself fully to completing the investigation process”. The case is under investigation by the Guarulhos Environmental Police Department.

The National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) requires airlines to transport guide dogs, which assist visually impaired passengers. But companies are not required to transport pets. The rules for transporting these animals are the responsibility of each airline, which establishes restrictions regarding the size of the animal and the necessary documentation, and also determines the amounts and fees charged. Large dogs, like Joca, are usually transported in the hold of aircraft, along with baggage and checked cargo.
