The 26-year-old was charged with theft by fraud and money laundering. Police have not released details of the investigation.
The case came to light in March last year. Residents of República Partenon stated that the embezzlement of the house’s bank accounts was directed towards virtual betting. At the time, Ygor, who was a student of Economic Sciences, held the position of treasurer of the residence.

Money to purchase the property
According to residents’ reports, on March 2, 2023, a lawyer representing the suspect set up a meeting.
At the meeting, he said that the student identified a leak in R$ 17 thousand in the republic’s accounts. So, to recover this value, he would have made investments in variable income and online gambling, but was unable to recover the money.
Still according to the students, transfers began to intensify with the arrival of Carnival. The students who lived there were organizing parties at the time, and the suspect took advantage of the moment to withdraw the money from the account.
The amount that would have been embezzled was being saved by the students to purchase the property that housed the republic, which was rented.
The money began to be raised more than 20 years – since when the republic was founded – through parties and events. With the amount in cash, the residents of Partenon signed a property purchase and sale contract.
