Police indict at least 13 people for the death of a young man who was electrocuted in Riocentro

The Rio Civil Police indicted at least 13 people for the death of João Vinícius Ferreira Simões, aged 25, for the crimes of procedural fraud and for homicide with possible intent. The boy died during the I Wanna Be Tour festival, which took place in March, at Riocentro, in Barra da Tijuca, in the West Zone of Rio, after touching an energized food truck.

— A little relief from today’s news. Of course, there is still a lot of pain, but with time, the longing will remain. I just have to thank the police for their work. I want the culprits to be punished, so that this doesn’t happen again. — said the young man’s mother, Roberta Isaac, to EXTRA.

Witnesses interviewed by GLOBO stated, at the time, that they had also received shocks at the scene, due to ungrounded wires in the middle of the event. One of them even warned employees and security guards about the risk of “some very big problem”. The threads were seen and photographed by João Vinicius’ mother the day after the young man’s death, when she was in space.

— They couldn’t have held a large event like it was done. I seek punishment and greater supervision so that no one else goes through this. My son will not return. I am aware that nothing I do will bring my son back — added the boy’s mother.

“I also pulled into a food truck and got hit so hard that I almost fell to the ground. Some people saw it, including friends of mine. We warned the people working at the food cart, but I don’t think they paid attention. I warned people around me, and they also ignored me… And now I know that I wasn’t the only one. I saw several reports…” says an excerpt from one of the reports sent to Roberta.

Another woman sent a message in which she said she also received a shock when she touched a structure at the event:

“In the afternoon, I received a serious shock in the arm, when I touched the structure of one of the food trucks that was on site. I saw other people in the comment also reporting that they had been shocked throughout the day in different structures at the event, including in their bar”, says an excerpt from the message. The witness still makes himself available to the family to testify in the case.
