“[Os dois países] they should achieve achievements for each other, and not harm each other”, said the Chinese president in anticipation of the visit of US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, to Shanghai.

China and the US should “be partners, not rivals”, said President Xi Jinping this Friday, regarding Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to Shanghai. The Chinese president called for mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and cooperation as the “three main principles” for US-China relations.

“[Os dois países] they should achieve achievements for each other, and not harm each other,” Xi said, according to the “BBC”.

Furthermore, Xi Jinping said that China and the US should “seek common ground while reserving differences and not engaging in fierce competition.”

It is possible for China and the US to “develop together and prosper separately,” Xi said. “China is happy to see the United States confident, open and prosperous. We hope that the US side will also have a positive view of China’s development.”

Secretary of State Antony Blinken is in Shanghai on his second visit to China in less than a year, following two recent visits by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.
