Actress Shannen Doherty revealed that the progression of her cancer prompted her to donate and sell all of her possessions. The 52-year-old celebrity reflected on her recent decisions regarding her belongings and the current stage of her illness in the latest episode of her podcast, ‘Let’s Be Clear’. The star of the series ‘Barrados no Baile’ and ‘Charmed’ said she was committed to ensuring that her death was “a peaceful transition” for her mother.

“My priority at the moment is my mother,” said Doherty.

Afterwards, she justified her decision to donate her belongings: “I know it will be difficult for her [a mãe] in case I die before her. As I know it will be heavy for her, I want the rest to be lighter. I don’t want you to have to deal with a lot of things. I don’t want her having to face four containers of furniture.”

Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, the actress saw the disease go into remission in 2017 and return three years later, in 2020. In November last year, the artist revealed that she was diagnosed with metastasis in her bones.

The actress then recounted a recent trip she made to her home in Tennessee to organize and pack her belongings: “We went to Tennessee so I could pack some of the things. It was very difficult and very emotional, because the feeling was that I was giving up on the dream of investing in this property, building a house for myself, a house for my mother and expanding the barn”.

She said she planned to build a sanctuary on the site for elderly or sick horses abandoned by their owners.

The artist said through tears: “It was one of my dreams. I was packing everything up and I started crying… I felt like I was giving up on my dream and… What did that mean to me? Did it mean I was giving up on life? Did it mean I was throwing in the towel? And my mother was there and told me, ‘don’t get rid of this place, it’s okay, you don’t need it, you can keep taking it’. And I said, ‘yes, of course’.”

However, she concluded that selling the property was “the right thing to do,” bringing her a feeling of “peace”: “I can still live my dream of helping horses. I can still live this dream by participating in rescues.”

Doherty ended by celebrating his decision to “get rid of” his belongings: “It allows me to travel more because I’m making money, I’m selling everything. Then I will make other memories, I will build memories with people I love. I can take my mother on trips, because I will have extra money nearby and I won’t touch what I have saved, this will ensure that everyone close to me will be protected when I die”.
