The death of the Ultravox musician was announced by his bandmate Midge Ure, in a tribute where he wrote that he was “the glue that held the band together”.

The musician, whose real name was Chris Allen, was the bassist for the new wave band, best known for their 1981 hit Vienna.

Without the cause of death being revealed, it was only said that the musician passed away on March 25th, but the news was only shared last night.

Ultravox frontman Ure said: «We work together, we play together, we make songs and direct videos together. We were friends and also comrades within Ultravox».

“Even after years apart, we managed to pick up where we left off as if the intervening years had never existed. It was the glue that held the band together. It was the logic of madness in our lives. You are a beloved old friend who will be missed by many.”

Keyboardist Billy Currie also paid tribute, writing on his Facebook page: “I’m very sad to hear what happened to Chris… We had an incredible time together.”
