After a considerable increase in the number of Covid-19 cases, recorded in the first weeks of the year in Mato Grosso, contagion from the disease appears to be falling. At least that’s what the Covid Panel shows, updated daily by the State Department of Health (SES-MT).

In 2024, 24,777 cases of the disease were recorded as of this Wednesday (13). There was a significant increase in cases between the end of January and mid-February. The peak of this wave was in February, when 744 cases of the disease were recorded in a single day.

Compared to the same period last year, it can be seen that the situation was really worrying this year. The data shows that between January and the first two weeks of March 2023, 9,269 cases of the disease were recorded.

In February, the superintendent of Health Surveillance at the State Department of Health (SES-MT), told the ReporterMT that the ministry even expected an increase in the number of cases due to the Carnival festivities.

“Yes, we identified that from the end of December we had this increase in cases. And this happens, yes, in relation to the end of year festivities, the time when the population is most crowded, most concentrated. This is the right environment for the virus to increase its transmission and with this we can identify more cases.”he explained at the time.

“This growth has been occurring since then and we understand that we will still face a few weeks of high virus rates, precisely because we will still have festivities, we are very close to Carnival. These are situations that give the virus the possibility of increasing its transmission.”he added.

Throughout the month of February 2024, 14,026 cases of the disease were recorded, in addition to 25 deaths across the state. In March, which only lasted two weeks, only 1,431 cases and a single death were recorded.
