The number of Covid-19 cases has increased throughout Brazil, and in the municipality of São Miguel do Oeste it is no different. According to data from the Municipal Epidemiological Surveillance, in January 2024, 19 cases of the disease were registered, in February the number of confirmations was 152 cases, and in the month of March, until the 28th, São Miguel do Oeste already registered 186 confirmations. of Covid-19, with more than 80 active cases currently. In 2023, the number of confirmations reached 796, and this year 357 cases have already been recorded.

According to the coordinator of the Epidemiological Surveillance of São Miguel do Oeste, Marcos Bortolanza, the increase in the number of cases is due to the seasonality of respiratory diseases, which from this period of the year onwards begin to have greater transmission, including the virus. Covid. The guidance, according to Bortolanza, is for anyone who has a cough, runny nose or sore throat to undergo testing at the Municipal Laboratory, next to the Central Health Unit. Testing is done on a first-come, first-served basis and does not require a request.

Another guideline is that when presenting Covid symptoms, the patient should wear a mask, follow cough etiquette, frequently wash their hands, use alcohol gel, and other precautions already provided by the health teams.
