“Dune: Part Two” is now in theaters and has been critically acclaimed, but Denis Villeneuve was incredulous at the comparison made by Christopher Nolan.

“Dune” (2021), one of the best science fiction films of recent years, brought Denis Villeneuve back to the spotlight. Before this epic he had already made films such as “Prisoners” (2013), “Sicario” (2015) and “The First Encounter” (2016).

In the incredible adaptation of Frank Herbert’s work, the filmmaker worked with several renowned actors – Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Stellan Skarsgård, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Jason Mamoa, Christopher Walker, among many others. Now with the sequel in theaters, the director reunited with some of these actors and worked with new artists in the cast, such as Austin Butler. The sequel already has a higher rating than the first film, as on Rotten Tomatoes went from 83% to 94% approval.

Our critic João Garção Borges gives it 80 points out of a possible 100 – “better, at least more consistent from a formal point of view, than the first part. And that in itself would be an achievement and an invitation to enjoy this second wave of the “Dune” saga, version 2024, without fear.” But within all the criticisms there is one that left Denis Villeneuve perplexedall because of comparison that Christopher Nolan made.

NOT IN YOUR BEST DREAMS!

Earlier this month, the British director compared “Dune: Part 2” to one of the best science fiction films ever, “Star Wars Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back”which is also considered the best film in the saga.

In an interview with GamesRadarDenis Villeneuve reacted to the analogy: “It’s a comparison that I would never dare to make. I think that’s a nice compliment because ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ is by far my favorite ‘Star Wars’ film. So, coming from Chris, It’s an incredible compliment.

WILL THERE BE A THIRD PART?

Although the second film premiered a few days ago, there is already a strong possibility of a third part. In the first film, Paul Atreides has a vision – “a great war spreads across the universe like an uncontrollable wildfire”.

Accompanying this phrase, battle scenes appear, with the character leading a large battalion. However, it is in this content that the secret is hidden and only the most attentive will have discovered it. This episode only occurs in Frank Herbet’s second book, “Dune: Messiah”precisely the book that Denis Villeneuve intends to adapt to close the trilogy.
