“It was a very thoughtful decision, but, thanks to the director of Miss Universe Buenos Aires, I decided to register at the age of 60,” Alejandra Rodríguez told TN on Tuesday.
To compete in the international Miss Universe, Alejandra must be chosen among the winners from other provinces in the national Miss Universe Argentina competition, which will take place on May 25, in Buenos Aires.
Lawyer and journalist, the now model lives and works in the city of La Plata, province of Buenos Aires, and was a debutant in the regional competition, which this year abolished the age limit for the first time.
“I had never signed up. Now this opportunity arose and it seemed like a challenge, a very interesting proposal”, said Alejandra.
“Beauty is not just about the physical, it has to do with the attitude towards life, which goes beyond aesthetics. Therefore, I think the contest came to break these stereotypes, and that is what is giving it so much visibility.”
The Miss Universe contest, long criticized for promoting outdated and stereotypical ideas of femininity, has been held since 1952.
