Andre Borges/Agência Brasília – 05/23/2017

The SES (Health Department) of the Federal District will start flu vaccination this Tuesday (19), starting at 8 am. According to the ministry, there will be more than one hundred service locations and Rede de Frio Central has already received more than 100.5 thousand doses from the initial batch from the MS (Ministry of Health). The list of locations and opening hours has not yet been released. Patients who fall into priority groups must bring an identity document and vaccination booklet (see who can be immunized below).

DF health secretary Lucilene Florêncio asks for the population’s collaboration. “We will start vaccination in advance and with the confidence that we will have strong public adherence. Brazil has the best immunization program in the world and this has been our greatest protection against vaccine-preventable diseases”, she reinforced.

Even those who have already received flu shots in previous periods should get vaccinated.

Check the priority groups:
– Elderly people aged 60 and over;
– Children aged 6 months to 5 years;
– Pregnant women,
– Postpartum women;
– Adolescents complying with socio-educational measures;
– Population deprived of liberty;
– People with chronic non-communicable diseases and other specific health conditions.

In the latter case, the patient must present a report proving the clinical condition.

Some workers from specific areas will also be covered. To receive the vaccine, the professional must prove their professional occupation with a badge or paycheck, among other documents that can identify the worker. Are they:

– Teachers;
– Health professionals;
– Members of the security and rescue forces;
– Military personnel from the three Armed Forces;
– Truck drivers;
– Port workers
– Public road transport professionals
– Prison system employees.

“These people are more susceptible to having severe flu conditions or are more exposed to the disease. Therefore, it is important to have broad adherence. There are more than 1.1 million people making up the priority groups”, says the Health manager. “We have a strong logistical effort to make the vaccine available in a large number of Basic Health Units [UBSs]in addition to actions on weekends, in schools, fairs, supermarkets, among other places”, he adds.
