In two weeks of strategic action to combat Aedes aegypti, the City of Aracaju, through the Municipal Health Department (SMS), has already carried out, through endemic disease agents, 435 night visits to homes, where 34 outbreaks were found. The night visit is part of the “Aracaju against Dengue” campaign and, since March 12th, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the teams go out to execute the pre-established schedule.

According to the manager of the Municipal Program to Combat Aedes (PMCA), Jeferson Santana, in the first week of work, agents concentrated their activities in a condominium in the Aruana neighborhood and, in the last week, visits took place in the Farolândia and Atalaia neighborhoods. .

“Before the agents go to the location, a prior conversation is held with the property condominium manager, so that residents are sensitized and instructed to let the agents enter the houses. The purpose of these night visits arose from the difficulty of finding residents in properties during the day, which hindered the work to combat Aedes”, highlights Jeferson.

Even with pre-scheduled visits, agents still find it difficult to enter some homes, therefore, municipal management reinforces the importance of the population opening the doors and welcoming the teams. “Unfortunately, there are some obstacles in accessing private condominiums, both houses and apartments. These tend to be more bureaucratic, especially those with higher purchasing standards. This difficulty in visiting makes it impossible for our professionals to carry out this important work, which is identifying and eliminating mosquito outbreaks in the common areas of properties”, highlights the manager.

Main breeding sites

During the visit, all agents are in uniform and have an identification badge, which confirms that they are Aracaju Health workers. The team inspects the main mosquito breeding sites, and what they find most are outbreaks in the gutters on the roofs of properties, especially in condominiums.

“In the common areas of the condominiums, the drains exposed to rain, the rainwater drainage boxes and the pump house are checked when there is a swimming pool, since, for the development of Aedes, it is enough to have any space that accumulates stagnant water, such as a laundry room. , barrel, water tank, vase, plant plate, rubble and solid waste. If necessary, larvicides are applied”, highlights Jeferson when alerting the population about the care that everyone should take in their home.

Still, as the manager highlights, “it is necessary for everyone to come together in the fight against mosquitoes”. “People need to pay extra attention, avoiding standing water because that is where there could be a possible breeding ground. It is necessary to observe your homes, your backyards and, if you need to store water in laundry rooms, water tanks and barrels, that the containers are very well covered and that a cleaning routine is maintained at least once a week. Furthermore, it is essential to receive the endemic agent”, points out the program manager.
