The State Department of Health of Minas Gerais (SES-MG) promoted, on March 11th and 12th, training on clinical management and combating arboviruses for the South and Far-South Health regions. The event took place in Varginha and was attended by around 500 health and management professionals from 103 municipalities in the south of Minas.

After the event, the presentations used by the speakers were made available, via email, to the municipalities. “Even so, we received several requests from health professionals who wanted to clarify doubts about the clinical management of dengue and so we organized a virtual meeting, to facilitate access to information”, explains Adriana de Faria Nogueira Luz, technical reference for primary care in the Coordination of SRS Varginha Health Care.

The virtual meeting took place on 3/22, with more than 200 simultaneous accesses in the 50 municipalities within the SRS Varginha coverage area. The training recording was made available to all municipal health departments, allowing access and replication according to the territory’s needs.

The infectious disease doctor from the municipal health department of Varginha, Luiz Carlos Coelho, gave a presentation on the clinical management of dengue fever, clarifying doubts. “We are going to use this moment to exchange ideas and encourage everyone to seek, at a local level, some measures that help in confronting this, which is already considered the worst dengue epidemic experienced throughout the state,” he said. The doctor, who had discussed the clinical management of dengue and chikungunya at the regional event, reinforced that the objective is to provide information to prevent worsening and especially deaths.

“Dr. Luiz Carlos is a reference for us in the health sector in the south of Minas Gerais. Therefore, the partnership with this professional became essential, helping us with the necessary training and updating of professionals in the care network, so that they can provide a qualified health care for the population affected by dengue and chikungunya in the South Health macro-region.”, concludes Luiz Paulo Riceputi Alcântara, superintendent of SRS Varginha.
