Uruguaiana approaches 100 confirmed cases of dengue, most of them indigenous

As the days go by, the dengue fever situation in Uruguaiana worsens. The Uruguaiana Health Department, in the first three months of the year, invested R$ 8.22 thousand in the acquisition of 2.1 thousand rapid dengue tests IgG IgM and NS1 Antigen indicated for an early diagnosis of the disease, from the 1st day of symptoms and helps in differentiating the acute and late phases of dengue. This is a screening test and the results must be interpreted by a doctor. On average, 10 tests are performed daily.

In the last 48 hours, 16 new cases of the disease were recorded, now totaling 91 positive cases, 81 of which were indigenous (acquired in the city itself) and 10 were imported. There are 127 tests awaiting results from Lacen – RS Central Laboratory, out of a total of 399 notifications.

Six people are hospitalized at Santa Casa de Caridade, three with the active virus and three under suspicion under observation. The index exceeds last year’s total volume by 268%, which was just 34 cases. The city has the highest incidence of dengue fever in the coverage area of ​​the 10th Regional Health Coordination, headquartered in Alegrete.

According to Suziele Pivetta, municipal secretary of Health, the population of 118 thousand inhabitants and the number of tests mean that detection is significant among locations on the Western Border.

The most recent cases were identified in five men and three women. The Nova Esperança, Santo Inácio and São João neighborhoods are the ones that record the most contagion of the disease.

“The numbers don’t surprise me. The municipality’s health area, following the state projection, estimates that throughout the epidemiological period the city could reach at least 300 cases of the disease”, says Suziele.

At the weekend there will be a joint effort within the municipality – areas of Vila do Açude, Barragem Sanchurí, João Arregui and São Marcos.
