In Brazil, the Ministry of Social Security points out that changes in the spine are considered the main cause for absence from work in 2023. Last year alone, more than 51 thousand people received benefits due to temporary disability and were removed due to a hernia disk.

Spine specialist orthopedist, Márcio Crisanto, explains that the health problem is linked to genetics and aging, however, some young people are presenting the condition.

According to Márcio Crisanto, treatment for the injury involves the use of painkillers, physiotherapy, and even surgery.

Symptoms include back pain, which may be associated with other symptoms, such as pain in the lower or upper limbs, numbness, burning, loss of strength and even difficulty urinating.

To prevent a herniated disc, it is recommended to practice regular physical exercise, wear appropriate and comfortable shoes, maintain a balanced diet, take care of your posture and avoid sitting for a long time, taking regular breaks to stretch your body.
