The Mealhada Chamber will restore the houses in the Pampilhosa Railway District, in a project that is part of the Local Housing Strategy.

It was approved by majority, in the Municipal Executive of the Chamber of Mealhada, the signing of a sub-concession contract for Bairro Ferroviário da Pampilhosa, in partnership with Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP)with the objective of recovery of houses to integrate them into the housing market.

António Jorge Franco, President of Mealhada City Council, explains: “the demolition of all that heritage was planned. We thought that we should not destroy that heritage and that history. The houses are very interesting, next to the Mealhada Public Garden, which will be a benefit for whoever lives in those houses. Our objective is to carry out a project to recover that heritage, taking advantage of the PRR values”emphasizes.

This neighborhood is part of a set of 12 uninhabited housesnext to the Pampilhosa train station, and which belong to the public domain of Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP).

The project is integrated into the Local Housing Strategy (ELH) of the municipality, with the rehabilitation, recovery and preservation of the neighborhoodas part of the application to the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
