Conductor António Vassalo Lourenço highlights the “rhythmic creativity” of the ballet premiered almost 114 years ago in Paris. The Firebird elevated Igor Stravinsky to international recognition and launched him as one of the most original musicians of his generation.
It is an “emblematic work”, which “brings a different language”, highlights the artistic director of the 42nd Festival Música em Leiria, which starts this Sunday, March 17. And the bridge between romanticism and modernism that the composer Russian built at the beginning of his career (he was only 27 years old) justifies his inclusion in the program “History and Revolution” that the Portuguese Symphonic Band (performing in Leiria for the first time) presents at the Teatro José Lúcio da Silva, at 5 pm.
At the opening concert of the Festival organized by Orfeão de Leiria, according to António Vassalo Lourenço, creations “considered revolutionary” in the history of music will be heard.
