This Saturday the record for thermal sensation ever recorded in Rio de Janeiro was once again broken. According to the Rio Alert System, at 10:20 am, the value recorded by Guaratiba Station was 60.1 degrees Celsius.

The value is the highest ever recorded since 2014, when Alerta Rio monitoring operations began. The city of Rio de Janeiro had recently broken a record, on November 18th, when it was 59.7 degrees.

Since November 14, 2023, the five highest thermal sensation values in the history of Rio de Janeiro have been recorded, as detailed by the Rio Operations Center, in a publication by X (formerly Twitter). All record values were measured at Guaratiba station.

The Brazilian National Institute of Meteorology published, on Friday, a meteorological warning about the danger of heat wave in Rio, which detailed that temperatures should be five degrees above average for two to three days. The alert ends at 6 pm this Sunday.

Alerta Rio predicts that in the north of Rio de Janeiro the temperature could, this Sunday, reach a maximum of 41 degrees Celsius, a slightly higher value than that recorded on Saturday (40.3 degrees). This will not necessarily mean, however, that the thermal sensation record will be broken again, taking into account that this last value depends on more factors such as wind and air humidity.
