“The transformative role that the arts have assumed in the social sphere”, will be one of the reflections proposed by the Weaving Communities Congress: Paths of the Arts in Social Intervention, Education and Citizenship, which will feature Spanish-Brazilian photographer Angélica Dass giving testimonies and showing your art.

The opening session takes place on the 21st, Thursday, at Teatro Miguel Franco, in Leiria, at 9:30 am, followed by several workshops in public spaces in the city.

The following day, work returns to Miguel Franco, where the closing session will also take place.

The initiative will address the role of Arts, Social Intervention, Education, Artistic-Cultural Mediation, Inclusion and Citizenship, at a social level.

The last day of the congress coincides with the opening, at 6:30 pm, of the exhibition Humanæ, by Angélica Dass, known for combining photography with sociology and for her participation in the defense of human rights.

The exhibition will remain on view in front of the Banco das Artes Galeria (BAG), until April 14th.

This exhibition, which consists of a collection of portraits that show human diversity, has already visited more than 80 cities around the world, namely at the Davos world economic forum and in National Geographic magazine.

Angélica Dass describes Humanæ as a photographic work “in constant evolution that proposes an unusually direct reflection on skin color”, in order to highlight that the greatest quality of human beings is “their diversity”.

This initiative is organized by CEIS20-University of Coimbra, the Higher School of Education and Social Sciences, the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, the Municipality of Leiria and the Leiria District Center of EAPN (European Anti Poverty Network) of Portugal.

The National Arts Plan, the Intermunicipal Community of the Leiria Region (CIMRL), the Caixa de Crédito de Leiria Foundation, the Marrazes School Group, the Livraria Archive, the LeiriMar Training Center, the Marrazes and Barosa Parish Union and ATLAS Leiria, are the partners of this event.

Humanæ, the project is a chromatic inventory that reflects on colors, beyond the borders of our codes, using the PANTONE color system as a reference.

It’s as if Angélica created a palette of people’s skin based on Human Pantone.

Humanæ comes with the strong intention of abolishing discrimination and encouraging dialogue about the stereotypes and prejudices that condition our perceptions.
