The communists’ objective is for this bill to be dragged into Thursday’s parliamentary debate scheduled by the PS on its bill to eliminate toll fees on sections and subsections of motorways in the Interior (formerly SCUT) or wherever not. there are alternative routes that allow for quality and safe use.

The PCP today proposed the elimination of tolls on a dozen ex-SCUT highways, considering that, in defense of the public interest, the end of these fees for users should not imply any compensation to concessionaires.

The communists’ objective is for this bill, to which the Lusa agency had access today, to be dragged into Thursday’s parliamentary debate scheduled by the PS on its bill to eliminate toll fees on sections and subsections of highways in the Interior (ex-SCUT) or where there are no alternative routes that allow quality and safe use.

In the initiative, the PCP states that the “introduction of toll rates on the old SCUT highways constituted a rude blow to the economic fabric of the affected regions”, making it possible to “conclude that in this process only the concessionaires stood to gain” while “the State, the populations and the regional economy have lost and continue to lose”.

“The PCP, from the very beginning, has always opposed the collection of tolls that were imposed and maintained by the PSD/CDS and PS governments and sided with the populations who, from the first moment, demonstrated against this unfair decision”, he recalls. the party in the explanatory memorandum.

According to the communists, “the reductions that have already been imposed in the value of tolls are inseparable from the struggle of the populations and the action of the PCP”, highlighting that for the party these routes are fundamental for regional development and should not have tolls.” because they have no viable alternative and because of the imperative of social justice”.

The PCP wants to eliminate toll fees for users of all sections and sub-sections of the A4 (Transmontana Motorway, between Matosinhos and Águas Santas, and east of Amarante), A13 (Pinhal Interior Motorway, between Atalaia and Ferreira do Zêzere ), A22 (Via do Infante), A23 (Beira Interior Motorway), A24 (North Interior Motorway), A25 (Beiras Litoral and Alta Motorway), A28 (North Litoral Motorway, between Angeiras and Darque) A29 (Motorway da Costa de Prata), A41 (Porto Outer Regional Ring Road) and A42 (Grand Porto Motorway).

The PCP also proposes that with the end of tolls on these roads, and “in defense of the public interest”, “no compensation should be owed to the entity that holds the concession”.

The communists want the executive to adopt, during this year, “the necessary steps to revert to the State the road concessions relating” to these motorways on which it wants to eliminate tolls, with Infraestruturas de Portugal being the entity managing the sections and sub-sections.
