The 9th edition of the Leiria Run, scheduled for May 4th, will have freedom as its motto and, to mark the fiftieth anniversary of April 25th, places that “made the history of the Carnation Revolution in the city” will be showcased.

According to Leiria City Council, the event, which passes through unusual locations, invites participants to “discover” “buildings, public spaces, people and stories” that played an important role in the resistance against the dictatorship.

Also Carlos Monteiro, from COC – Orienteering Club of the Center and one of the people who annually designs the Leiria Run routes, mentioned in the presentation of the race, during yesterday afternoon, that, in addition to the traditional passages through Leiria Castle and the river Lis, places will be revealed where “no one has ever been”.

The councilor of the Leiria City Council responsible for Sports recalled that this is “an event that always has a mass attendance”.

“In 2023, there were four thousand people and, this year, registrations are proceeding at a high rate. It is possible that they close long before the test date. I appeal to you to register as quickly as possible”, emphasized Carlos Palheira, pointing to a limit of 4,500 participants.

The first phase of registration runs until April 1st. In addition to the 13-kilometer run, the Leiria Run also includes a nine-kilometer walking route.
