Children from the Rio de Loba Social Center, in Viseu, offer plants in an ‘environmental mission’

The children from the ATL of the Centro Social Paroquial de Rio de Loba, in Viseu, distributed plans throughout the parish as a way of raising awareness among the population about the urgency of taking care of the environment. The initiative aimed to mark the International Day of Trees and Forests, which took place this Thursday (March 21).

In a true “environmental mission”, the group of 30 children offered the plants to those who came across them and in commercial establishments in the parish, spreading a message of valuing the environment and some smiles. As a form of gratitude, they received some “sweet treats” from the inhabitants of the parish.

For Ana Sousa, the institution’s social-cultural animator, these types of activities “are highly appreciated by younger people as they like to be in contact with people, getting their hands dirty”.

Vanda Rodrigues, social educator, highlighted the importance of this initiative that promotes “active participation in community life”.

“These activities are very important for children’s civic education. It is necessary to encourage and develop actions like this, which promote active participation in the life of the community and which give them skills to be more responsible citizens. The fact that we can work on environmental awareness and awareness in a playful and pedagogical way is an added value, as it awakens their desire to preserve and improve the environment for a future that will be better for everyone”, he highlighted.
