Cherry trees start to bloom at this time of spring, giving the slopes of the Douro River a different view than usual. Paus will host the Cherry Blossom Festival in April
The cherry blossom trees have once again covered the landscapes of the municipality of Resende in white. It is at this time of spring that these species begin to flower, giving the slopes of the Douro River a different view than usual in March and April.
The cherry trees then give rise to the Resende cherry, which is considered one of the earliest fruits in Europe. The municipality once again promotes its typical delicacy in another Cherry Festival, which will take place on the weekends of the 1st and 2nd and 8th and 9th of June. The exhibition highlights the fruit that comes out of the cherry trees, accompanied by entertainment and popular music.
Also to celebrate the cherry blossoms, the town of Paus will host another Cherry Blossom Festival on April 7th, starting at 3:30 pm. The event will feature performances by Resende folkloric groups, in a party organized by the São Pedro de Paus Folkloric and Ethnographic Group.
At the same time, there are guided tours to the Cherry Blossom Route, with visits to the Municipal Museum of Resende and the parishes of São João de Fontoura, São Pedro de Paus, Barrô and São Martinho de Mouros, where there are more cherry trees.
