The sea and wind forecast points to a considerable worsening of weather conditions and sea agitation for the Madeira archipelago, between 12pm tomorrow, March 26th, and 12pm on Wednesday, March 27th. .

The sea agitation will be characterized by swells coming from the Northwest, with a significant height that could reach 6 meters and a maximum height of 11 meters, with an average period between 11 and 14 seconds. The wind may register an average intensity of up to 40km/h and gusts of up to 70km/h, coming from the Northwest quadrant.

Therefore, the Navy and National Maritime Authority warn, especially the fishing and recreational boating community that is at sea, to return to the nearest port of shelter and adopt precautionary measures.

It is also recommended:

– Reinforce the mooring and surveillance of moored and anchored vessels and it is also advised that seafarers maintain a state of permanent vigilance and monitor the evolution of the meteorological situation, through warnings to navigation and the meteorological forecast from the Instituto Português do Mar and the Atmosphere (IPMA), as well as other information provided by the Port Authority on access conditions to ports, avoiding going out to sea until conditions improve;

– The general population is advised against taking walks along the coastline and beaches, as well as engaging in activities in areas exposed to sea disturbances or affected by surf. In particular, access and stay near cliffs and cliff areas should be avoided, and it is essential to adopt a preventive stance, not unnecessarily exposing yourself to risk;

– If there is an absolute need to travel to the coast, you must maintain a vigilant attitude, always bearing in mind that in these conditions the sea can easily reach apparently safe areas.
