There are several ways to show political dissatisfaction, but in the USA there were those who decided to do it in a drastic and unexpected way. A 35-year-old Texas man has legally changed his name to Literally Anybody Else, which translates to Literally Anyone Else, and is running for office in that country’s 2024 presidential election.
Dustin Ebey, the previous name, is a war veteran and math teacher. The new name is already on his driving license, which is used as an identification document in that country.
In an interview with local Dallas television channel WFAA, Literally Anybody Else justifies this change with the dissatisfaction she feels with presidential candidates Joe Biden and Donald Trump. “Three hundred million people could do better than them. There should be options for people like me, who are tired of seeing power being handed over to just two parties, which is something that does not bring any benefit to the common citizen,” he says.
The choice of name represents his belief that “anyone else” could take the position other than a representative of the Democratic Party or the Republican Party. “The US should not have to choose between the ‘Debt King’ (as he proclaimed himself) and an 81-year-old man. Literally Anyone Else is not a person, it is a battle cry”, reads the official website.
For the candidacy to be accepted in the presidential election, it is necessary to collect 113 thousand signatures from voters in the state of Texas by May. If she succeeds, Literally Anybody Else calls on voters to vote on her behalf as a form of protest. “There is no ‘neither’ option on the bulletin, so my name fills that role.”
