Protection Commission says that foster families are “a pressing need for the child and youth promotion and protection system”

The Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People (CPCJ) of Tondela is looking for foster families to receive children and young people on a temporary basis. The institution is organizing an awareness campaign to find households who want to apply for the Social Security program.

Last Thursday (21 March), members of the CPCJ met with the team responsible for selecting and training foster families in the district of Viseu.

Foster families are “a pressing need for the child and youth promotion and protection system”, argues the local commission in a statement. “95% of minors who need to be removed by the CPCJ or Courts from their respective parents end up having to be kept in the care of Reception Centers, precisely because of the lack of these families in sufficient numbers”, he adds.

According to the CPCJ of Tondela, the “Foster Families” awareness campaign aims to inform the community of the importance of this measure and attract new families who can care for and educate children for some time, with a view to then returning to the family of origin.

Throughout the reception, the family will receive permanent support from the technical team, in addition to monthly financial assistance to cover family expenses.
