THE LOOKOUT | Azambuja with a program commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April

The 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution will be celebrated in the municipality of Azambuja with a vast program that will take place throughout the month of April and will be presented at the Sebastião Mateus Arenque Municipal Museum.

The program, the municipality said in a statement, was drawn up in conjunction with the parish councils and aims to “honor the courage of the April captains and the collective memory”, as well as “involve the generations born after 1974, reinforcing the values ​​of freedom and democracy, and promoting the participation of everyone in the life of the community”.

Among the initiatives that will be developed throughout the municipality, in public spaces or at the headquarters of the seven parish councils, will be the exhibition “Azambuja in the Revolution of 1974 – a photographic collection”. The first conversation in a vast cycle takes place on April 4th, at 9:30 pm, at the Joaquim Capão winery, in Aveiras de Cima, under the motto “Tell me how it was!”.

In terms of musical shows, the municipality highlights João Afonso Trio live, on April 6th, at 9:30 pm, in Manique do Intendente. To end the celebrations, on the 27th, at 9:30 pm, at Largo da República, in Aveiras de Cima, the “50 anos de Abril” concert will take place. Congratulations to us!” with Fernando Tordo.

The traditional solemn session of the Municipal Assembly of Azambuja will take place on the 25th of April, at 8 pm, followed by the show “April Windows: Freedom, Democracy and Equality”, produced by the municipality and involving 15 artists locals who will perform live in the windows of the Paços do Concelho building.
