He was president of AICEP in the years of troika, he was part of the team of four coordinators of the AD economic program and believes that a macroeconomic scenario that foresees economic growth of 3.5% until 2028, like that of the PSD “is realistic”. At 56 years old, Pedro Reis, PSD activist, deputy, economist, president of the Consultative Council of the Portuguese Diaspora is the new Minister of Economy.
Licensed in Management and Business Administration from the Portuguese Catholic University, with stints at Harvard and INSEAD to complement his academic career, the new Minister of Economy assumes that “if nothing structural is changed in the Portuguese economy, the scenario may seem somewhat optimistic”. “But it is realistic, attainable and desirable,” he said in a recent interview with Jornal Público in which he defended the need to focus on growth, “treat well” the private sector, reduce taxes and bureaucracy.
