The rain and strong wind, due to the Nelson depression, are causing numerous events and conditions in Portugal and the islands.

Civil Protection recorded 598 incidents, between midnight and 7pm this Thursday, when more than 800 firefighters were on the ground. They respond to falling trees and structures and flooding.

The occurrences mainly occurred on the North and Central coast, with the most affected sub-regions being Greater Lisbon and Algarve, which at the end of the day was being affected with greater precipitation and strong winds, and also Lezíria do Tejo.

Until Easter Sunday, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere, rain will be constant. Snowfall is expected in some regions, strong winds and strong sea waves.

Wind knocks down stadium structures and forces children’s football tournament to be canceled in Madeira

The ‘São Vicente Cup’, a children’s football tournament in Madeira, had to be canceled after structures collapsed in the middle of the stadium, due to the wind that occurred this Wednesday.

No children were there when the situation occurred.

“With great sadness, we inform you that the São Vicente Cup Tournament has been canceled due to the adverse weather conditions that are being experienced at Estádio dos Juncos. The safety of players, fans and staff is our main priority”, reads a shared note on Facebook.

The Elpibersportsbar Elpibe restaurant, in Sarilhos Grandes, Montijo, was forced to close due to the damage caused by the bad weather affecting the area. The roof was completely destroyed and some glass was projected.

O CM You know that the establishment belongs to Manuel Fernandes, a former Sporting player, and was managed by his son, who coached the Alvalade club.

“Dear customers, due to the damage caused by the wind, we will be closed indefinitely. Thank you”, read a post on Facebook.

Rain closes PSP Loures police station again six months later
