The first house built with a 3D printer in Portugal is now ready. It is a 90 m2 T2, has a garden, the walls are covered with cork so that there is no loss of heat, it has a modern and minimalist feel, and it was printed in just 18 hours. The assembly took a little longer: two weeks. It is located in the town of Vilar do Pinheiro, in Vila do Conde, and is the beginning of what could become a process that could combat the high price of houses in Portugal.

3D technology has been talked about for a long time for the most varied purposes, but it is only now that the first house with the entire structure created using a 3D printer has been implemented in Portugal. The project is from the company Havelar, which believes it will be able to create houses at prices well below what is practiced in Portugal. A small house like the one now completed in Vila do Conde could cost around 150 thousand euros, not counting the price of the land, revealed the “Observador”. “Our vision is to create a solution to the housing crisis with technology that will change the way we make homes in the futurewith a high level of automation, with sustainability, a very important pillar in our strategy”, explained the executive president of Havelar, Patrick Eichener, in statements to “Observador”.

The structure of the house, the walls, is what is printed. Roofs, interior materials, floors, furniture, countertops are all made with normal materials or purchased, like in any other house. The walls are printed using blocks and then the house needs to be assembled, a process that takes two weeks. “After the house is printed, we have to assemble it. The roof, the doors, the kitchen, are assembled in two weeks”said Rodrigo Vilas-Boas, co-founder of Havelar, interviewed by “Observador”.
