“They erased my daughter from history”: Children with special needs excluded from Scottish school photos – World

Excluding or keeping children with special educational needs, in the photographs taken of the class at Aboyne primary school, in Scotland, was the option given to those in charge of education by the Tempest Photographyphotography company, according to Sky News. The possibility intrigued guardians when they realized that their children could be disabled simply by using wheelchairs.

Erin Pinnell, aged nine, she was one of the girls whose parents of the remaining students could decide to remove the photograph to immortalize their children’s school memories.

“They erased my daughter from the story. I couldn’t believe it. I opened it several times and thought I must be missing something. I am devastated, there are no words to describe it. It has been one of the most painful experiences for a mother to see a adult to give other adults the option to erase my daughter from history,” explained her mother, Natalie Pinnell.

According to the person in charge of education, the school was unaware of what was happening. When the institution confronted the photography company, it received confirmation that guardians of two classes could make this choice.

Natalie Pinnell said she has received support from the school to try to resolve the situation: “This cannot be allowed to happen. It is very painful to talk about and the only reason I am doing this is to raise awareness and ensure that No other family goes through this, because it is simply unacceptable.”

After complaints were raised, the company apologized: “Recently, after taking a photograph of a class group, one of our photographers took additional images of the class group, which omitted some class members from the photograph. We deeply regret any disruption that this has caused and we would like to sincerely apologize to the parents and children affected. We are a family business who photograph in UK schools and would like to reassure our customers that this is not normal business procedure and that we are taking take this matter very seriously. We are committed to implementing significant changes to prevent this from occurring in the future.”
