The Municipality of Braga will make the first amendment to the Tax Benefits Regulation, with the aim of providing significant support and incentives for the acquisition of their own housing by young people residing in the Municipality. The measure will be analyzed at the next Municipal Executive meeting, which will take place on Tuesday, April 2nd, at the Sé Parish Council.

The changes include the reimbursement of 25% of the Municipal Tax on Onerous Property Transfers (IMT) for young people between 18 and 35 years of age, who acquire urban buildings or autonomous units intended exclusively for their own permanent housing. This refund will also apply to couples or co-owners, as long as one of the purchasers is up to 35 years old and the other is not over 40 years old.

To be eligible, applicants cannot own any other urban building or autonomous unit intended for housing in the Municipality of Braga. Furthermore, a 25% IMT refund will be granted as long as the acquisition value does not exceed the following typology limits: T1: €200,000.00; T2: €250,000.00; T3: €300,000.00.

After recognizing the right to support, Braga City Council will reimburse 25% of the tax paid, deducting the amount of charges incurred with the settlement and collection of that tax by the Tax Authority. In addition, young people will have the opportunity to receive a contribution of 50% of the cost of the construction/reconstruction project, up to a maximum amount of €1,000, as long as the project is intended exclusively for their own permanent housing within the Municipality of Braga.

These measures aim to provide young people living in Braga with greater accessibility to own housing, thus promoting the development and well-being of the community.

Municipality grants benefits and rights to Protection and Relief Volunteers

Also at this Executive meeting, the new regulation on the Granting of Rights and Benefits to Protection and Relief Volunteers will be voted on. This regulation, of a social nature, aims to recognize, value and protect the important work carried out by volunteers for the benefit of the community, on a voluntary basis.

This initiative represents a significant step in municipal social policy, demonstrating recognition for the dedication of the men and women who commit themselves daily to civil protection missions, often putting their lives at risk to safeguard populations and heritage.

As part of its responsibilities for Civil Protection, Braga City Council is committed to contributing to the recognition, moralization and motivation of volunteers, whose commitment is vital for the well-being of society. The fundamental purpose of this regulation is to encourage and recognize the activity carried out by volunteers, who express the values of sharing, dedication and disinterested commitment, providing an invaluable public service in all its aspects.

According to the regulations, Volunteer Firefighters, Volunteers from the Emergency Operational Structure of the Portuguese Red Cross and Operational Volunteers from Local Civil Protection Units are considered Protection and Relief Volunteers. These volunteers, responsible for protecting human lives and property in danger, will be entitled to a series of benefits and rights, such as subsidies for food expenses; exemption from all fees, including administrative ones, related to urban planning operations relating to own and permanent housing, outbuildings and garages; free access to sporting initiatives promoted by the Municipality of Braga, upon presentation of the volunteer card; free use of municipal sports equipment managed by the Municipality; free access to swimming pools, among other benefits.

Beneficiaries of this regulation will receive an identification card issued by Braga City Council to enjoy their rights.

This measure reflects the commitment of the Municipality of Braga to recognize and value the essential work of protection and relief volunteers, who play a fundamental role in the safety and well-being of the community.

Local authority establishes protocol with Braga Volunteer Firefighters

The Municipality will celebrate a collaboration protocol with the Humanitarian and Charitable Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Braga. “DOING GOOD” is the motto of this protocol that establishes the terms of cooperation and defines the details of the collaboration to support and promote the Association’s humanitarian activities, in close coordination with the Municipal Civil Protection.

The main objective of this protocol is to facilitate the continuation and development of the humanitarian activities of the Braga Volunteer Firefighters Association, thus guaranteeing an excellent service to the community.

As part of this agreement, the Municipality of Braga undertakes to allocate an annual financial contribution in the total amount of €50,000.00 (fifty thousand euros) aimed at supporting the Association’s projects and initiatives, thus strengthening its vital role in protecting and safety of the Braga community.
