It should be noted that STAL called a workers’ strike at FCC Environment Portugal for March 30th and April 1st.

The effects of the strike are evident throughout the municipality, with rubbish accumulated in containers and adjacent areas.

“Following this demonstration of unity and determination by workers” from FCC Environment, STAL states that it expects “a serious openness from the company and the City Council to resolve the problems, which respects the workers and the important functions they perform in the municipality and put an end to discrimination.”

STAL, on the other hand, explains that it delivered a Resolution to demand the correct payment of the Penosity and Unhealthy Supplement and the application of the assessment of Local Administration workers, and that the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities (ANMP) “showed itself available to intercede in this regard with local authorities, urging them to comply with what the law determines”, guarantees a union source.

The demands made by the Union and the workers include general issues of response to the worsening cost of living and general increase in working conditions, such as an increase in wages by 15%, with a minimum of €150, an increase in the meal allowance or reducing the working day to 35 hours.

But, beyond general questions, workers demand “very concrete answers” ​​to the conditions in which they work, such as the granting of Unhealthy, Hardship and Risk Allowance, the guarantee of Health and Safety conditions at Work, compliance with exams mandatory annual doctors and the recognition of illnesses resulting from the activity carried out.

Workers also demand the opening of a serious negotiation process that puts an end to discrimination between workers and regularizes situations of precarious employment of workers who perform functions corresponding to permanent needs.
