The Organizing Committee of the XXII Pilgrimage on Horseback – Moita » Viana do Alentejo, in a statement issued and published on the official page of the Viana do Alentejo City Council, came to “regret the tragic accident that occurred”, this morning, on the second stage of the route, in Landeira , which resulted in the death of one participant and caused minor injuries to another.
In the note released, the organizing committee addresses “the most heartfelt condolences to the family, wishing all pilgrims a peaceful and safe rest of the Pilgrimage.”
It should be remembered that, as Rádio Campanário reported, a 56-year-old man lost his life early this afternoon following an accident with a cart, participating in this pilgrimage, in Landeira, municipality of Vendas Novas.
This accident also resulted in one minor injury, a 28-year-old man, son of the fatal victim.
The alert for the occurrence was given at 12:28 pm and 15 firefighters from Vendas Novas, GNR and INEM were mobilized to the scene.
The Inem Helicopter was called to the scene, but the 56-year-old man was declared dead at the scene of the accident.
