The PCP, through deputy Alfredo Maia, questioned the Government about the situation of the clothing company IRSIL, located in Oliveira do Hospital.

The question, which was addressed to the President of the Assembly of the Republic, was sent to the Boa Nova Radio by PCP:

“Excellent. Mr President of the Assembly of the Republic

The clothing company IRSIL – Irmãos Silva, based in Oliveira do Hospital, Coimbra, is in the process of insolvency, due to the lack of orders that make work in the next two months unsustainable.

The company, which has existed for around 60 years and employs more than 180 workers, was undergoing a Special Revitalization Process and the workers are in a lay-off situation.

It is important to note that workers did not receive their February pay and received 90% of their March pay, leaving them in a situation of enormous fragility.

In these terms, the PCP Parliamentary Group, under paragraph d) of article 156 of the Constitution and under the terms and for the purposes of article 229 of the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly of the Republic, submits to the Government, through the Minister Labor, Solidarity and Social Security, the following issues:

1. Are you aware of the situation described above?

two. What public support, whether through the State Budget or through community funds, has this company received in the last five years?

3. What measures will the Government take to immediately safeguard jobs and workers’ rights?
