The importance of good nutrition for citizens’ health could be the starting point for a good conversation, but above all for a good meal. Translating the idea, the Movement of Support of Parents and Friends for the Intellectual Diminished (MAPADI) organized, on April 18th, a “lunch with a 100% Poveira identity”, prepared by chef Hélio Loureiro. The ‘Almoce Connosco’ action took place within the scope of the ‘Póvoa de Varzim-IA-AMP_Rural’ mentoring project, a program in the Porto Metropolitan Area under the scope of Food Identity.
Around 160 people attended the “first event of this Food Identity project whose menu was prepared only with products from suppliers in Póvoa de Varzim”, revealed António Ramalho, President of MAPADI.
The institution’s partners in this project are Nutritionforhappiness, Horpozim, Litoral Rural, Leicar and Armadores de Pesca do Alto Mar.
In turn, the councilor of the Póvoa de Varzim City Council, Lucinda Amorim, revealed that the challenge launched by the Porto Metropolitan Area to the 17 municipalities that make up it, led to the survey of branded and quality products that actually exist in the municipality. The challenge was also launched for the possibility of these products being included in the menu of all institutions and school canteens in the municipality in the future.
The Solidarity Walk, on the 4th of May, is the next initiative to support MAPADI, followed by the Days in the Park, the Feast of S. Pedro, on the 28th of June, and a solidarity dinner to be held in July on a date to hit.
