INEM helps children at the emergency room of Viseu Hospital

-

With the closure of the pediatric emergency department in Viseu during the night, at the weekend, there are repeated episodes of parents calling 112 outside the hospital. SIC knows that the unit is experiencing difficulties hiring more professionals and that in the coming weeks the situation could become even more complicated.

Since March, the pediatric emergency room at Viseu Hospital has been closed during the night between Friday and Monday and there are many episodes of parents who, caught by surprise, are forced to call 112 at the door of the Emergency Room.

The Viseu Lafões local health unit hospital serves a community of over 500 thousand
people and serves as a reference for the regions of Guarda, Castelo Branco and Viseu. On the last night, with several children transported to Coimbra hospitals, the pre-hospital response in Viseu was compromised.

With a one-hour journey and almost 100 kilometers to Coimbra, with the natural desperation of parents speaking louder, be warned.

SIC knows that despite the efforts of the Viseu Hospital administration and clinical management, it has not yet been possible to hire more pediatricians to reinforce the team, currently with 15 doctors, and that in the coming weeks, with the arrival of the holiday period, the situation may worsen.
