If you thought the blockbuster almost certainly Dune: Part 2 would bring us the third part soon, or that right now the sets are being prepared to get the team together as quickly as possible and finish Denis Villeneuve’s epic, prepare to be a little frustrated. The director himself tried to calm things down regarding this hypothetical ending to the trilogy, which, let’s remember, hasn’t even been officially announced by Warner yet.
A special trilogy
It was to The Times of London that Villeneuve declared what we all, deep down, intuit: “Of course we want to have a third part, but I don’t want to rush it”. We still have a long way to go before we can reunite this cast of superstars again, if that ever happens again.
Ultimately, what he says is commendable in an industry that increasingly wants hastily made sequels and universes and in which quality is obviously suffering. And the director knows this very well: “The problem in Hollywood is that people get excited and only think about release dates, not quality”.
Dune: Part 2 arrived against a bleak box office backdrop, so likely, even if it’s just due to a lack of competition by the end of March, it will be a success that will ensure he can complete his trilogy. Until then, just wait and see. Things on Arrakis are moving slowly.
