With the end of Daniel Craig’s era as James Bond, there has been a lot of speculation and curiosity about the future of the 007 saga.
Daniel Craig was the most recent actor to give life to the character created by Ian Fleming, giving 15 years of his life to the spy and taking part in five films in the saga. The British actor gave us a different Bond than the previous ones, more explosive and violent.

WHO IS THE PRODUCER OF JAMES BOND?
The 007 saga films were produced by EON Productions in collaboration with MGM. However, in 2022, MGM was acquired by Amazon, by which time “007 – No Time to Die” was ready.
One of the producers of James Bond, Michael G Wilson, revealed that it is a new world and they will have to see what happens with Amazon, but that there will always be Bond. Producer Barbara Broccoli revealed to the The Guardian in 2023: “These films reflect the times we live in, and there is a long journey ahead of us to reinvent the next chapter. We haven’t started anything yet.”
However, it is known that “Bond 26” will be distributed by Universal Pictures, because MGM signed a contract with Universal for two films: “007 – No Time to Die” and the next one.
However, you can rest assured that, with the end of the contract, the films will not go directly to streaming.
WHO WILL BE THE NEXT JAMES BOND?
This is the big question that everyone has been asking after “007 – No Time to Die”, taking into account the ending of the film.
Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson have the final say on who could be the next 007, becoming the seventh actor to do so.
Wilson revealed in an interview with Variety in 2020: “You think of him as someone from the UK or the Commonwealth, but the UK is very diverse.” Broccoli added: “He may be any color, but he is a man.”
The two also revealed that they are reinventing Bond and that this takes some time to do. Although many would like Bond to be younger, the producers discarded this idea as they tried to do so before choosing Daniel Craig as 007. Before “007 – Casino Royale” (2006), the actors who were finalists for the role were Craig and Henry Cavill. Craig was the older of the two, with Cavill being 21 or 22 at the time.
For Broccoli and Wilson, Bond is someone with experience, not someone fresh out of university.
There have been many names being thrown around for possible 007, including Henry Cavill (now 40 years old), Idris Elba, Cillian Murphy and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Recently, rumors began to surface that the role had been offered to Taylor-Johnson, definitely one of the favorites in the race. We have to wait and see what happens.
WHO COULD BE THE DIRECTOR OF BOND 26?
Until the era of Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, there was a certain tradition that a director was responsible for a series of films, with John Glen directing five films, Guy Hamilton with four films, and Lewis Gilbert with three.
After the Brosnan era, more acclaimed directors were sought after, such as Sam Mendes for “007 – Skyfall” and then “007 – Spectre”, or Danny Boyle, who was hired for Craig’s last film, however, he ended up being replaced by Cary Joji Fukunaga .
There were a number of other names that were on the list to direct “Bond 25” and might be interested in leading the next chapter of James Bond, such as: Yann Demange, Susanne Bier, David Mackenzie, or Denis Villeneuve.
However, there is another name fans were excited to hear, but it’s unlikely to happen: Christopher Nolan. The question came to the director of “Oppenheimer” during the podcast Happy Sad Confusedto which Nolan responded: “It would be a huge privilege to do one. At the same time, when you work on a character like this, you are working with a series of restrictions.”
CAN CAST MEMBERS RETURN FOR BOND 26?
Another tradition in the James Bond saga is that some cast members appear in several films, even with different Bonds. Actor Desmond Llewellyn brought Q to life alongside the first five actors who played 007, from Sean Connery to Pierce Brosnan. During the Brosnan era we had Judi Dench as M, and the renowned British actress continued to bring the role to life during the Craig era.
This leaves the door open for Ralph Fiennes, who gave life to M, Ben Whishaw who played Q, and Naomie Harris, who played Moneypenny, to return to the saga with a new Bond. Both Fiennes and Whishaw revealed, in interviews, that if there was the opportunity to return, they would do so with pleasure.
WHEN CAN WE EXPECT THE NEW JAMES BOND MOVIE ON SCREENS?
Since the production of the new film has not yet been confirmed, it is suspicious, even taking into account the rumor of the offer to Aaron Taylor-Johnson, that EON Production is already moving. However, it is unlikely that a new film in the saga will hit theaters in 2024, most likely in the next two years. Remember, this is all speculation.
However, once a director and a new 007 are chosen, it is possible that the feature film will hit the screens quickly. For example, “007 – Casino Royale” from 2006 arrived in theaters in November, after filming took place from January to July of that same year.
