In an interview for the Happy Sad Confused podcast in 2023, Keaton confessed that he recorded the scene, but when trying to explain the entire context, he didn’t understand what it was about:

Michael Morbius (Jared Leto) has always suffered from a rare condition in his blood that has caused him to walk with a cane and be excluded since he was a child. Experimenting with bat DNA and an electroshock mixture, the cure was a temporary success, but the side effects transform Morbius into a pseudo-vampire who now needs to survive as one.
