Michael Keaton appeared as the villain Vulture in the post-credits scene of Morbius, but to this day he still doesn’t understand this appearance.

The release of Madame Web in theaters unfortunately confirmed something that many suspected, Sony cannot handle the Spider-Man universe without Spider-Man. The only one that can be “redeemable” is Venom and its sequels, films that respond well at the box office, although they are not even close to being critics’ favorites.

Today I’m going to talk a little about Morbius, a box office failure from Sony. For those who haven’t watched it yet, the text contains spoilers, so proceed with caution.

At the end of the film, we have the classic and even expected post-credits scene in which Michael Keaton appears in his role as Vulture, the same one we saw in Spider-Man: Homecoming from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This could be interpreted as the idea of linking the MCU universe to Sony’s, but apparently the actor didn’t understand anything.

In an interview for the Happy Sad Confused podcast in 2023, Keaton confessed that he recorded the scene, but when trying to explain the entire context, he didn’t understand what it was about:

No, I have no idea, zero, nothing. Even they couldn’t explain it to me properly. [Jared Leto] said ‘look, let’s tell you,’ and I said, ‘Honestly, I don’t understand what you’re talking about and who all these people are.’ They tried to explain, but it was complicated because, you know, they’re always looking to the future. I just thought, ‘Okay, I’m in. We will try’

We know that among the company’s plans was to create a line of films with Spider-Man villains, we already have Morbius, Madame Web and Venom, Kraven is currently missing, who will arrive in August with his film starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, but if If he suffers the same fate as the first two, Sony could reanalyze the next scenarios.

Michael Morbius (Jared Leto) has always suffered from a rare condition in his blood that has caused him to walk with a cane and be excluded since he was a child. After graduating from college, Doctor Morbius is renowned in the field of biomedicine and tries to find a cure for his rare condition. Experimenting with bat DNA and an electroshock mixture, the cure was a temporary success, but the side effects transform Morbius into a pseudo-vampire who now needs to survive as one. Despite gaining the abilities of a bat, he needs human blood to survive and changes physically, with fangs and pale skin. Now, every person he bites also becomes a being like him.

Morbius is available in the Prime Video catalog.
