After playing Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s film, the actress joins the adaptation of The Sims.

A thin path separates the pink world of Barbie dolls from the virtual world of The Sims, and Margot Robbie is willing to walk it. After playing the famous doll in Greta Gerwig’s hit film, Robbie will produce, through her company LuckyChap, a feature film inspired by the hit video game from the 2000s.

According to The Hollywood Reporterthe film will be directed by Kate Herron – to whom we owe the Loki series – from a script she co-wrote with Briony Redman.

An infinite universe

To refresh your memory, The Sims is a life simulation game where players embody an avatar with modifiable personality traits, skills and relationships. Each of them has goals and aspirations and must perform daily tasks such as preparing meals, decorating the house, working and many others.

Just like the Barbie doll and the film adaptations of Lego toys, The Sims doesn’t exactly have a pre-written story – in other words, the film adaptation possibilities here are endless. So far, we still don’t know what the story of the film will be and which actors will play the famous avatars.

This feature film adds to the long list of toy license film adaptation projects, including a Polly Pocket film directed by Lena Dunham with Lily Collins in the title role; the adaptation of Daniel Kaluuya’s purple dinosaur Barney; and even a production about the iconic Hot Wheels cars.
