Who is Magia, the mutant that Morfo transforms into?

Appearance could mean something important for the future of the animated series

In X-Men ’97, Morph showed that his powers can grant him all kinds of abilities, including revealing the existence of characters that the public didn’t remember. In the third episode of the animated series, released this Wednesday (27), the mutant became an important figure in the history of X-Men: Illyana Rasputinalso known as Magic.

Who is Magic, or Illyana Rasputin?

Featured in Giant-Size X-Men #1in 1975Magic was created by Len Wein It is Dave Cockrum and is the younger sister of Pyotr RasputinO Colossus. At first, Illyana is just part of the hero’s family nucleus. It is then that in Uncanny X-Men #160in 1982the girl becomes involved in an interdimensional plot.

In it, Illyana ages seven years after entering a paranormal dimension known as Limbobecoming a powerful sorceress, developing the ability to create teleportation portals.

Over the course of the X-Men editions, Illyana adopted the name Magik and began to have a deep connection with Limbo, with much of her abilities being influenced by this dimension. In X-Men ’97for example, we see one of the repercussions of this connection, when Madelyne Pryor causes Morfo to transform into the dark half of Illyana, aka Darkchylde.

But Magia’s appearance in the animated series hints at something even bigger. This is the first time we’ve seen any indication that Illyana became Magik in the classic X-Men animated universe, which could mean that the production has plans to You New Mutants in the future.

Who are the New Mutants?
