‘Beetlejuice 2’, ‘Alien’, ‘Furiosa’ and the Insane SEQUENCES That Will Dominate Cinemas in 2024

The buzzword in Hollywood today is “IP.” This means betting on brands known to the general public. What every major studio ultimately wants is to secure a profitable franchise to call their own. Today, unfortunately, the motto is to play it safe, after all, that’s what makes the box office. But don’t worry, all is not lost. This is what the biggest films of 2023 demonstrated last year: ‘Barbie‘ It is ‘Oppenheimer‘, two original ideas (or at least, ideas that hadn’t been brought to the cinema before).

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to have a franchise, as long as it’s really good – ‘Mission Impossible‘ is there to prove it. Another factor that needs to be taken into account as it is very popular is nostalgia. And when coupled with the desire for a franchise, we begin to see sequels to classic films. And here we will give another example led by Tom Cruise:’Top Gun Maverick‘.

In this article we will take a look at 10 great films promised for the year, which are actually continuations of classics or recent hits – and which are among the biggest expectations for 2024. Check it out.

Thirty-six years after ‘The ghosts have fun‘, a cult film from the 80s directed by Tim Burton, we will finally have the return of the mocking ghost Beetlejuice. For decades, a sequel to the beloved supernatural comedy has been considered – and today it was finally possible, thanks to an era very inviting to nostalgia.

Burton back in direction, in addition to Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara and, of course, Michael Keaton as the protagonist. The addition to the cast is due to Jenna Ortega as the third generation of women ready to take on Beetlejuice.

Past between ‘Alien‘ (1979) and ‘Aliens‘ (1986), the new episode of the franchise will return to its roots for a pure exercise in fear. From the atmosphere shown in the trailer, the homage to the original film is clear, and ‘Alien Romulus‘ promises to come very close to what Ridley Scott created in the original feature film.

This is because from the first to the second film in the franchise there is a gap of 57 years. It is this hiatus that ‘Romulus‘ proposes to fill. The script and direction are by Fede Alvareza specialist in horror and suspense, and the cast includes young faces led by Isabella Merced It is Cailee Spaeny (which caught attention in ‘Priscilla‘).

Don’t forget to watch:

Angry‘ is another that recently got a new trailer, further increasing the hype for the film. Here we are talking, of course, about production with the brand ‘Mad Max‘, a cult product that had been parked there in the 80s after three films.

This changed when the same director, the Australian George Millerdecided to take his work out of the drawer and inject huge doses of a modern blockbuster, thus delivering the masterpiece ‘Mad Max – Fury Road‘. So celebrated, the film was nominated for an Oscar for best film and, in addition, introduced the heroine Furiosa to the world. She is the one who returns in an origin story, now played by Anya Taylor-Joy.

In the first three items we had nostalgic franchises returning for another round. But a quality and much-loved franchise doesn’t just need to have ties to the past. One of the most beloved of the last 8 years goes by the name ‘Deadpool‘.

After two spectacular films (with the second managing to be even better), this year we will have another film starring the chatty mercenary, who elevated the career of Ryan Reynolds to a new level. Everything is bigger and more ambitious in this third film, starting with the fact that it will be the first under Disney’s control, in the MCU. And secondly, it will have Hugh Jackman like Wolverine, as one of the protagonists.

Returning to the past again, in 2024 ‘Beverly Hills Cop‘ celebrates its 40th anniversary. It’s a more than special date. That’s why, Eddie Murphy decided to commit to getting a more than special celebration off the ground: a much promised and requested fourth film about the adventures of one of the most famous police officers of the seventh art: the troublemaker Axel Foley.

From the trailer, the sequel serves as a return to form and origins, with the participation of many familiar faces from the past, and the addition of many new ones. Apparently, it will be the perfect mix of action, comedy and police thriller, just like the original. It’s just a shame that it won’t be released in theaters but directly on Netflix.

Like this ‘Deadpool‘, ‘A Quiet Place‘ is a recent franchise, which this year is completing 6 years of its release on the big screen. That’s precisely why it’s time to celebrate. Time passes quickly, doesn’t it? It seems like yesterday that we discovered the horror film starring and directed by John Krasinski and his family, including real-life wife Emily Blunt.

An apocalyptic reality, where monstrous creatures have become predators of humans, and we cannot make a sound, which is what attracts them. The sequel was somewhat hit by the pandemic, but was still successful. Now, we will be taken to the beginning of it all, where we will see the beginning of the invasion of the creatures, this time starring the Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o.

Do you remember ‘Twister‘? Well, if you are over 30 the answer will certainly be yes. That’s because the film was a huge success in the mid-90s, piggybacking on the revolutionary computer graphics effects that created the dinosaurs in ‘Jurassic Park‘ to create the most realistic tornadoes that cinema had ever seen, all with his own production. Steven Spielberg.

Unlike today, until the 90s, films existed for their own sake, to tell good stories, even if they were full of adrenaline, and not just to create a franchise. So films like ‘Twister‘ It is ‘Independence Day‘ closed their stories. But it is clear that today’s producers would not let these brands rest, so both gained a following. ‘Twisters‘, although unusual, promises a lot of fun – even more so with the charisma of Glen Powell It is Daisy Edgar-Jones.

Now, we come to the last three items on the list, but they are by no means less important. These last three films are the ones that have not yet received a trailer and are scheduled for release towards the end of the year. We start with what sparks their biggest hype: ‘Joker 2‘. The first ‘Joker‘ was one of the biggest films of 2019 and in the history of cinema, managing to surpass the ridiculous US$1 billion mark at the box office.

In other words, if it were any sequel to the film, it would already arouse huge expectations. But this is not just any sequel. Bringing together the same team, the filmmakers decided to take a big gamble and hired none other than Lady Gaga to give his interpretation of Harley Quinn in this dirty and realistic universe, with high censorship, which works separately on its own – and therefore, without strings attached, can have a lot of creative freedom.

Another that has not yet received its first trailer, making a sequel to the epic ‘Gladiator‘, winner of the Oscar in 2001, seemed too insane an idea to succeed. However, leaving the supernatural story aside, and deciding to bet on Maximus’ bastard son as the protagonist, Lucius, now an adult and in the form of the Oscar nominee Paul MescalGladiator 2‘ started to become one of the most interesting films of 2024. Especially due to the cast cast in the film.

Trying to overcome the absence of Russell Crowe It is Joaquin Phoenixbut bringing Ridley Scott back to the director’s chair,’Gladiator 2‘ decides to bet on a new, equally impressive cast as a decoy. In addition to the aforementioned Paul Mescalthe film will feature nothing less than the great Denzel Washington on prominent paper. As if that weren’t enough, we will also have the omnipresent Pedro Pascalthat between ‘The Last of Us‘, ‘The Mandalorian‘ and the next ‘Fantastic Four‘, has been consolidating itself as a true force in Hollywood.

Finishing the list we have a truly curious case. Yes, dear reader,’Karate Kid‘ will have a new film in 2024, the same year the original film celebrates its 40th anniversary. ‘Karate Kid‘ launched a trilogy with Daniel San and Mr. Miyagi in the 80s, which became so popular that it became a cartoon series and a line of dolls for boys. In 1994, he would release a not very popular copy, without Daniel San and with a female protagonist, played by the now two-time Oscar winner, Hilary Swank.

Slightly more popular than this fourth film was the 2010 remake starring Jackie Chan like Mr. Han. Even the idea would return to popularity with the series’Cobra Kai‘, which brings back the pure nostalgia of 80s films, and has already lasted five seasons, with the sixth and final one promised for this year. In other words, we will overdose on ‘Karate Kid‘ in 2024. It remains to be seen what connection the new film will have with the series, as it will bring together Daniel San (Ralph Macchio) and Mr. Han (Jackie Chan). We just want Julie to return, experienced again by Hilary Swankor in the film, or in the series.
