Meet Charles Xavier’s lover

X-Men ’97 is giving space to present and reintroduce important characters from the mutant universe. In the sixth episode of the series, Death in Life – Part 2we have the return of Lilandra Neramani and, together, a curious plot involving the Shi’ar empire. First apparition

Created by Chris Claremont It is Dave Cockrum, Lilandra Neranamialso known as Majestrixthe empress of the people Shi’arappeared for the first time in the comics of Marvel in Uncanny X-Men #97in 1975. However, in the edition, the character appears only as a masked creature in the dreams of Charles Xavier.

Lilandra’s identity is only revealed a few issues later, in Uncanny X-Men #105when the alien finally finds the X-Men and, together, ask for help in a matter of life and death.

The Phoenix Saga

Lilandra is introduced into the history of the X-Men before the events responsible for jean gray will be Phoenixhowever, is officially presented a few editions after we meet the cosmic entity.

In Uncanny X-Men #105, Lilandra teleports to Earth seeking Charles’ help. The alien says that she has been communicating telepathically with the Professor X in recent weeks, however, he was only able to personally contact the mutant at that moment. The reason for this meeting is D’Kenbrother of Lilandra and emperor of the Shi’ar, and his desires to dominate the rest of the universe.

Lilandra tells about a recent discovery of hers, the M’kraan Crystal and D’Ken’s desires to use him for his own benefit. Seeking to protect the entire universe, Lilandra asks for help from the Phoenix and the X-Men to defeat D’Ken and remove him from power. Fortunately, the mutants managed to stop him and, together, ensured that Lilandra became empress of the Shi’ar.

Charles Xavier and Lilandra

On Xavier and Lilandra’s first meeting, a romance was already blossoming. The couple advanced their relationship when the mutant believed that his students had died during one of his missions. Devastated by the news, Xavier decided to become the consort of Lilandra, now known as Majestrix.

The two stayed together for a while in Shi’ar Throneworldbut Xavier found himself returning to Earth when he realized the danger the Phoenix posed to all humanity.

The Dark Phoenix Saga

When the Phoenix became Dark Phoenix, Lilandra and the Shi’ar empire decided to intervene. The new entity had destroyed a Shi’ar ship and a planet allied to the alien people, which meant this power needed to be controlled.

Xavier then requested a trial by combat, which pitted a newly cured Jean Gray and the rest of the X-Men against the Shi’ar. Thinking about saving everyone, Jean sacrificed herself, putting an end to the story of the Phoenix, but also that of Majestrix.

Your sister, Cal’syee Neramanialso known as Prey, he saw it as the perfect moment to take the throne for himself. Lilandra then stopped being empress and was exiled.

Starjammers

Once exiled, Lilandra decided to join the Starjammersteam led by Corsair. Just like in X-Men: The Classic Series, Lilandra realized that Xavier was about to die, which made her look for her former lover on Earth and take him with her. After the mutant was cured of his injuries, Lilandra began to fight alongside Xavier and the Pirates, as rebels and exiles.

The team faced everything from Prey to the KreeHowever, the couple did not survive Lilandra’s second resumption of power. The Shi’ar returned to the rank of empress while Xavier returned to his X-Men.

Cassandra Nova Xavier

Years later, Lilandra encountered a new threat linked to Xavier and the X-Men: Cassandra Nova. Charles’ twin sister took possession of Lilandra’s mind and body and forced her Shi’ar Imperial Guard to annihilate the X-Men. The damage done to Lilandra’s mind was so extensive that the alien even tried to murder Xavier, since she believed she was Cassandra.

Death at the hands of the Steel Falcon

Facing Cassandra caused a new exile suffered by the empress. But this time, it was D’ken who arranged the coup. Later, Rapina’s husband, Vulcanhe would kill the emperor and claim the throne by right of conquest and by his new ties with the royal lineage.

Lilandra found herself once again fleeing alongside the Space Pirates. Unfortunately, Lilandra died shortly afterwards, at the hands of Steel Falconhero who was being controlled by one of Vulcan’s servants.

Did Lilandra and Xavier have a daughter?

After the deaths of Lilandra and Xavier, in 2018, Xandra Neramani he was born. The character, the couple’s daughter, appeared in Mr. and Mrs. X #1 (X-men: Mr & Mrs in official translation), during one of Rogue It is Gambit.

In this story, we discover that Lilandra and Xavier’s genetic material was used to create a child. O “egg” was in the care of the Shi’ar Cerise and eventually came into the hands of the Imperial Guard.

At the end of the plot, Xandra is not only born, but chooses her name and appearance in honor of her parents. Currently, the girl is the current Majestrix of the Shi’ar empire.

Powers and abilities

Despite being part of the X-Men universe, Lilandra is not a mutant, which means her main abilities come from her alien physiology. The Shi’ar has superhuman strength and endurance, but what sets it apart from others of its kind is its telepathy. Lilandra has limited telepathic abilities, especially when it comes to Charles Xavier.

Adaptations

Lilandra’s main adaptation remains the 1990s X-Men animated series, as well as X-Men ’97. In addition to them, the character appeared in Hulk and the Agents of SMASH and games like X-Men (1993), X-Men Legends II It is Marvel: Ultimate Alliance.

Interestingly, no version of Lilandra appeared in any of the adaptations of the Dark Phoenix Saga in theaters.
