Instead of films, Brazilian studios should focus on series

Increase Que É Rock’n’Roll hits theaters this Thursday (25). The film, which tells the true story of Rádio Fluminense FM, has a lot of subject matter to cover. In this way, the narrative about the station – known as The Cursed– could be better developed as a series. But, nationally, Brazilian studios prefer to focus on feature films.

The new national film tells an important story from the 1980s. As Brazil sought redemocratization, music played a necessary role, especially among young people. However, the reflection of this movement had no space on the radio. Journalists Luiz Antonio (Johnny Massaro) and Samuca (George Sauma) changed this scenario, which ended up influencing generations.

In the context of cinematography, Increase Que É Rock’n’Roll misses the opportunity to delve deeper into different relationships between Fluminense FM. The reason? The ideal time for a film. In an attempt to reduce the duration, the plot is rushed at impactful moments.

If the story of A Maldita radio was formatted as a series, the audience would get closer to the protagonist and even become more involved with the plot. At times, the themes of love, work and politics are lost during an intense sequence of scenes.

On the national scene, studios prefer to invest more in films than in series. In a culture dominated by soap operas, entertainment companies find it difficult to launch productions with multiple episodes. Netflix, Max and Prime Video even open the doors to this type of content, but on a much smaller scale compared to Hollywood.

Increase Que É Rock’n’Roll is still a good production. The soundtrack, the cinematography itself and the dynamic script are positive points of the national film. However, the story of Rádio Fluminense FM deserved more screen time, which would be possible in the series format.

The film also stars Marina Provenzzano, Orã Figueiredo, Silvio Guindane, Flora Diegues, Joana Castro and Clarice Sauma. Watch the trailer for Increase Que É Rock’n’Roll below:
