Scarlet Witch’s powers and Wanda Maximoff’s own trajectory have always been a source of considerable confusion in Marvel Comics. In a preview Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver #3which hits foreign newsstands this week, Wanda and Visão are attacked by the villain Mago, who, after being “turbocharged” by a mysterious cosmic entity called Angel, receives the help of henchmen who form a collective mind called Fearsome Forty-Four (or “Fearful Forty-Four”, in free translation).
The entity called Angel believes that Wanda and her brother, Pietro, have the potential to release enough chaos to unbalance the forces of the universe. To defend herself, Scarlet Witch unleashes two dark powers that she keeps trying to contain within herself, the elder god Chthon and the book of hidden and forbidden spells Darkhold.
Chthon can be considered the personification of the energies of chaos and the Darkhold contains ancient texts of dark magic, both of which are closely linked to the Avenger. By releasing a fraction of both elements to protect herself from the Wizard, Wanda’s inner demons take advantage of the rare moment of freedom to demonstrate a portion of the fury they feel at being kept in seclusion for so long.

This manifestation of “minions of chaos” are nicknamed Unending Chaos (or “Endless Chaos”, in the free translation). As always, Wanda does not seem to have complete control over her “definitive form”, and, it seems, the Angel entity may have some reason to worry about the possibility of Scarlet Witch becoming corrupted and releasing all the destructive potential that resides within her. inside yourself.
