Refusing to speak about the Legislature or any national issue, the outgoing Prime Minister considered that what is “on the agenda are the European elections”.
“I fulfill my duty to thank and say goodbye”, stated António Costa, admitting that representatives of the European institutions “are curious” to know what the new political framework will be like in Portugal.
Asked whether he considered his political future to be a hostage to Portuguese justice, António Costa preferred not to answer and to remember that he respects and has always respected Law and Justice.
Regarding the growth of the extreme right in Portugal, with Chega’s increase in mandates in the Assembly of the Republic, the outgoing prime minister considered that “European institutions have good reasons to be completely calm, from this point of view, when it comes to the change of Government”, since André Ventura’s party did not express support for anti-European or pro-Russian policies, for example.
“There will be no change in European policy or foreign policy,” he explained.
