Russian forces launched airstrikes on Kiev and the region around Lviv in the west overnight, official sources said.
“There are explosions in the capital, the anti-aircraft defense works. Don’t abandon your refuges”wrote Kiev mayor Vitali Klichko on Telegram.
According to the military administration, anti-aircraft defense systems managed to repel the attacks. However, there was a warning that one of the missiles had actually entered Polish airspace.
“The object entered Polish space near the town of Oserdow and remained there for 39 seconds. During the entire flight, it was observed by military radar systems”.
“One of these missiles at 04:23 crossed our airspace, moving at a speed of almost 800 kilometers per hour,” said Jacek Goryszewski, quoted by Reuters. “It traveled about 2 kilometers beyond the border [com a Ucrânia]”.
The Polish government has already reacted and assures that it will demand explanations from Moscow. The Polish Defense Minister accused Russia of violating international law and assured that if the Russian target had been Polish territory, the missile would have been shot down.
The Ukrainian army assures that 18 missiles and 25 drones launched by Russia were destroyed by the country’s air defense systems and that the night attacks caused only minor damage.
“There were two preliminary attacks on the same critical infrastructure facility that the occupiers attacked during the night”Lviv Governor Maksym Kozytskyi said on social media.
